Charles Dickens was born in portsmouth in 1812. when he was ten years old went to live in london, but his father was imprisoned for debt and he had to work in a blacking factory to help his family. this experience was terrible for him, because the children were exploited then he became a parliamentary reporter and worked for a magazine and wrote a series of caricatures of life and manners of the time.
