JAMES JOYCE IN INGLESE

Joyce narrative technique.
Joyce set all his works in Ireland. He want to give a realistic portrait of the life of ordinary people. Portraiyng the ordinary people, he represents the man's mental and emotional reality.
Joyce was a modernist writer: in his works the facts are explored from different point of view and are presented as “clues” and not through the voice of omniscient narrator. Joyce's novels started in the middle of the narration, with the analysis of a particular moment. Time is a subjective perception leading to psychological change. The description of Dublin derived from the character's mind floating, not from external reality.
Joyce believed in the impersonality of the artist and to render life objectively in order to give back to the readers a true image of it. This led to the isolation of the artist from society. In his works he don't want to express the author point of view, but he used different points of view and narrative techniques appropriate to the characters portrayed. Joyce used the free direct speech and the interior monologue. Reality became the place of psychological projection.
