LA NASCITA DEGLI STATI UNITI D'AMERICA: RIASSUNTO BREVE

THE SHAPING OF THE USA - The American flag is composed by thirteen stripes, which represent the original thirteen states; and the fifteen stars which stand for the actually number of states.

This flag became official on the 14th of June 1777 and every year Americans celebrate this date.

THE BIRTH OF THE NATION - In the prehistoric period Asian hunters moved to America when the two continents were joined; after in 1492 Christopher Columbus lands the Caribbean isles, he thought to have reached the Indies, in fact called the inhabitants “Indians”. During the 16th century started the exploration of the new world and a lot of plans arrived in Europe and started the first trade between Europe and America. During the 17th century started the colonization of America by Spanish, Portuguese, French and British, and the first black slaves are taken to American. The fourth of July 1776 the English colonies declared their independence from England, which accepted this in 1783. Few years later the founding fathers wrote the constitution in Philadelphia and two year later George Washington became the first president of USA.

THE PILGRIM FATHERS
The Pilgrim Fathers were the first European who founded a colony in America. They were Puritans in contrast with the Church of England and leaved from Europe to escape religious persecution, so in December 1620 founded Plymouth Colony.
COLONIAL UNREST
In the 18th century the England government imposed taxes on the colonies and established the monopoly on its trade.  After, England passed new taxes and limited their rights and this caused the anger of the colonies and in 1773, to protest against the taxes on tea some colonists attacked the British ships and threw the boxes of tea into the sea. Then England closed the harbor but more and more people demanded independence from Britain and this caused the war. The colonel George Washington led the American army which wins the war.
THE DECLARATION OF INDIPENDENCE
The declaration says that all men born equal with unalienable rights, which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Every Government must secure these rights, if it is not this way; the people have the right to abolish it.

THE CONSTITUTION
At the end of 18th century, 55 delegates called Founding Fathers drafted the constitution of the new USA. This is the supreme law of the nation and establishes the form of the government and the rights and the liberties of the people. It is formed by a preamble and seven articles, so for this motive amendments are anticipated.
GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington was the first president of the US and his simplicity make him respected and loved. He was born in Virginia, precisely at Mount Vernon, from a farmer’s family. Even if he frequented few years the school, he was a great businessman. He became rich using new technologies on his farm. George Washington was the commander of the army during the independence war and then head of the Virginian delegates during the convention in Philadelphia. He becomes president in 1789 and he was reigning for eight years.
