The 20th
century was defined as the 'short century' by Hobsbawm, because there was a
concentration of events that changed everything the world.
In 1901 queen Victoria died--> King Edward VII (1901-1910), was the last king of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha Hannover House and had haemophilia. Under his reign were passed by parliament some social reform such "The old pensionate Act", which granted pensions to people over 70, and the "National insurance Act", which made free medical treatment available to insured workers.
In 1903 was founded the "suffragettes" movement by Emmeline Pankhurst and continued by her daughter, in support of the right to vote for women..
