In 43 CE the Roman Emperor Claudius invaded Britain with his army and he founded the town of Londinium (where London is today). The small town had a wharf for ships, warehouses for goods, two main streets that crossed each other, the forum with the big town hall called basilica.
In 60 CE Londinium was destroyed by the Iceni people led by Queen Boudicca. The town was rebuilt and it became important for army and for trade.

In 100 CE it became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia and the Romans built beautiful homes and important public buildings. They also built six important roads as Watling Street (went from Wales to Dover). Between 190 and 225 CE a wall of about three kilometres was built to protect, but it was attacked by Saxon pirates, so another wall was built along the River Thames and he lasted about 1600 years. Today you can see parts of it.
