PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: RIASSUNTO BREVE IN INGLESE
One of the most important Jane Austen’s novels of manners is Pride and Prejudice, written in 1813.
The plot is set in the rural south east in England in the early 19th century. As regards the style, the writer uses third-person presenting the action from her point of view, on the other hand the first-person narrative plays a part in the novel by means of many letters. Besides irony is much employed. The narration of events is balanced by passages of riflection and by letters. Pride and Prejudice’s main themes are: love, wealth, status and marriage, in terms of security and independence, arising out the physical infatuation as well as containing elements of love and prudence.Orgoglio e pregiudizio: riassunto in inglese

Therefore Elizabeth rejects him and she accuses him of separating Bingley and Jane, as well as of ill-treating Mr Wickham, a young officer who was the son of Darsy’s former steward. Later Darsy writes her a letter where he reveals that Wickham is an unscrupolous adventurer. Meanwhile Wickham elopes with Lydia. Darsy traces them and he provides for their marriage. After that Elizabeth realizes that she was mistaken about him and she accepts the renewed proposal, in spite of the opposition of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Darsy’s arrongant aunt. Bingley comes back and becomes engaged to Jane. At the end there are two happy marriages.
Darsy and Elizabeth are the hero and the heroine of the novel. They are round characters, as they change their mind in the novel, from the beginning to the outcome.
Darsy is proud of his social position and he isn’t disposed to mix with people that he considers socially inferior. He knows the principles of right conduct but he is selfish, unsociable, concited, aloof, but also goodlooking and handsome.
