During the Victorian Age there was for the first time a communion of interests and opinions between writers and readers. A reason for this fact was the growing (crescita) of the middle class, which was a great consumer of literature and read periodicals, in fact moreover Victorian writers
belonged (appartenevano) to the middle class. The Victorians showed a great interest in the prose and the greatest literary genre was the novel.

Often the novels were published in episodes on periodicals, and in this way the author has to maintain a certain interest in the publish to involve to
buy the periodical; then often the public commented the various episodes so the author could alter the story according to the public's opinion (for example Dickens).
